Vacation Highlights (part 5) Finale

Our last stop was Germany, where we spent time in Munich and Heidelberg. The weather in Munich was rainy--perfect for visiting art museums: the Alte Pinakothek and the Neue Pinakothek. These first three images are from the Alte Pinakothek (old art), and are related to bookbinding and calligraphy.

I'm including this next image from the apartment where we stayed in Munich because I thought it was a wonderful way to display artwork on a wall: paint a large rectangle in a feature colour, mount a gallery type strip where the wall and ceiling meet and hang the artwork from this mounting strip. Easy to change up the artwork without putting new holes in the walls and it draws attention to the artwork.

This was an early example of German poetry, displayed at the Heidelberg castle.

A visit to the textile museum in Ziegelhausen did not permit any photographs to be taken inside. We saw an exhibition of beautiful quilts by Inge Hueber, one of which is shown on the sandwich board sign in the photo. Along with quilting, she hand dyes all her own fabrics.
