Altered Ambitions

I started digging into that new fabric stash from the garage sale, but I didn't use it for anything I had originally planned.

Instead, I decided to make some fabric coiled mats with the quilting cottons to start with. I made one from each of the three prints. I've barely made a dent in the fabric pile, so there will be lots more available to make some fabric covers for journals, and everything else on the list....

I'm listing these mats in my PrairieThreads Etsy shop this week; you can see them here.

Don't forget that you also have the chance to win this aqua coiled mat in a promotion sponsored by the Winnipeg Etsy Street Team. All you have to do is visit this treasury on Etsy and leave a "thoughtful" comment to be entered to win all 16 items! I wish I could enter!

I'm linking up to The Needle & Thread Network. Come see what other Canadian stitchers are up to:

  4. I just recently found some of that thick cording that you use for the mats at a 2nd hand store. So I am planning to experiment to see if I can create my own mat! I love yours, though and am sure mine will have all sorts of flaws, but then it will be my first effort...

    1. Thanks Angelika! Remember though, that you are only seeing a photo, and from a distance. I guarantee that there are small imperfections, but that's the beauty of handmade!

  6. Hi Peasant,

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Your mats are cute. I confess to loving the idea of making that sort of thing but to falling apart on the amount of 'finicky' required. Clearly your sewing machine is less moody than mine when it comes to this sort of project...! ;-)

  7. What lovely mats! My mother-in-law used to make braided rugs but these don't look braided. Hmmmmm...
