Arts Junktion Inspiration

Here in my city of Winnipeg, we have a recycling centre for artists called Arts Junktion. Businesses and individuals donate things they no longer want, like hardware, paper, wallpaper, fabric, etc., and wonderful volunteers sort them so that artists, teachers and students can take materials they want for FREE! I love going there because one person's junk is another person's treasure, and all the better if it's not going to the landfill! Who knows what you might find there, and did I say it was free?

Here's what I managed to pick up last time I was there:

My haul included a few reams of paper, envelopes, boxes, fabric and yarn. My finds inspired me to make this book for a swap with the Bookbinding Etsy Street Team:

The paper on the covers was a calendar for a car dealership in a previous life (you can see it in the top picture above). With the torn edges and the bright colours, it reminds me of cotton candy, so I've called this the Cotton Candy Journal. I also found the cute button and the paper for the pages in my haul. The paper for the pages was donated by a local credit union who changed their colours. For this book I used plain white and blue paper, while other packages have a light image printed in the blue. I think it will still be just fine for books.

  4. Trisha, I've heard that other cities have similar depots--there might be something similar near you. And thanks for your sweet comment!
Joyce, check their website for their hours before you go. They are only open 3 days during the week since they are entirely volunteer run.
Monica and Ruth, thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.
