Weekend Worktable
The leather sweater project is progressing. Usually I stew about things like this for a while and let ideas percolate before I make too many major decisions. I decided to deconstruct the garment first, then determine how the pieces might be used. The two front pieces and the back yolk yielded the most sizable pieces of leather. I think I will leave the lacing intact on the front pieces and use them for the main portion of the journal. The knit sleeves and back and the lining pieces may find their way in yet too. The next step will be to look through my papers and see what I have that might suit this project.
Oh Laura,
ReplyDeleteI am committing a great and serious sin in my heart. I lust for that leather.
I can't wait to see the journals you make from it and I am hoping to find something made of soft leather at a second hand store so I can satisfy this lust.
Thanks for showing it deconstructed. I am afraid I would have just started cutting. Your way is much more practical and thrifty.

this looks great. I'm going to send a link to the owner. I have to say that pink looks better on my screen than it does in real.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Vicki! This might be just the beginning of a new line of work for me--there is so much leather available at second hand stores these days.
ReplyDeleteBrenda, I don't actually mind the salmon colour of this. It's kind of growing on me.
I'm glad you're keeping the lacing in -- I like that detail. I think it'll make great journal covers. Perhaps some pop-art layered pink flower cut-outs as detail on another?
